What to Do When Feeling Lethargic and Unmotivated
Have you been feeling gloomy and tired without a plain reason in sight? Wondering what to do when feeling lethargic? Then you’re on the right spot.
Everyone has the occasional moment like this – and I won’t even call it depression. It’s just… there. You’re tired and don’t feel like doing anything.
Some of you experience this in the morning; some of you experience it in the evening. Some may even feel like this throughout the whole day.
However, I want to tell you that you can and you will feel better. Sluggish days don’t last forever – and there are a few simple things you can do. (yes, even when you don’t feel like doing anything!)
If you’ve been feeling lately like you’d rather go back to bed than do anything, keep reading on to see how I fight my fatigue and what you can do to bring back your motivation!

As you can see in the video, I’ve been experiencing energy drops for the last few months. I’ve been feeling tired, unmotivated, fatigued.
The weird thing is that I experience that only in the early evening. I normally do so much during the day. I’m the productive, old-self I’ve always known.
However, as soon as 6 PM comes creeping around and the sun goes down, bam – I’m done!
But what’s even weirder than that is that I cannot pinpoint this to a specific reason.
Everything’s fine – and yet here I am, unable to lift a finger.

Anyway, it feels good to not be alone in this – and remember, it won’t last forever!
Here’s what I do to try and bring back my enthusiasm – and what you should try doing too!
Accept your feelings
It’s physically and emotionally impossible to always feel good and highly motivated. In fact, forcing yourself to experience emotions you’re currently not feeling may backfire in more ways than one.
Drop what the productivity gurus are screaming at you from social media. You’ll save the world some other day. For now, focus on saving yourself.
Accepting and acknowledging your emotions will help you pinpoint the reasons behind it. Meditate, journal and work on feeling better – inside out.
Surround yourself with people
Forcing myself to be around people while going through an energy drop has been working extremely well for me. I feel less lonely this way.
This doesn’t mean you need to spend time with people you don’t like. Toxic people that suck out your energy will make you feel only worse.
What I like to do is to go to coworking spaces. They’re always full of people but people that don’t look to talk to anyone else.
I don’t care how productive I am while I’m there. I only care to be around other human beings.
Get some sunshine
My energy drops happen around 6 PM which is more or less, the time the sun sets down where I live. That made me realize I may need to spend more time out in the sun.
You don’t have to go to a beach to do this. Even spending time in your backyard with a refreshing drink may be enough. Or even better, head to the nearest park – you’ll get both people and sunshine this way!
Try to spend as much time as possible outside just soaking up the warmth. You’ll feel more energized before an hour is gone.
Believe it or not, you could be feeling physically drained just because you haven’t drunk enough water during the day.
You may not feel thirsty but your body needs water – lots and lots of water. If you don’t like the taste of plain water, infuse it with some fruit and drink all the way up.
You’ll realize water works even better than caffeine in kicking away the headache that comes hand in hand with sluggish days.
Rest & unplug
Sometimes, all you need to do in order to bring back your motivation is to simply rest.
The reason behind this is that we often don’t experience the stress of certain events until after they’re done. And yeah, even positive events like graduations and weddings take their toll on the body!
So – rest. Do the things you love. Read books, paint something, cook yourself a nice meal, binge-watch Netflix… oh, and sleep. Lots and lots of sleep.
Do this for a day or two and it’ll feel like you’ve been restarted.
